HSI2027: Navigating Complexity
23-25 August 2027 | London, UK
HSI2027, the Fourth International Conference on Human Systems Integration (HSI), organised by INCOSE in coordination with the International Ergonomics Association (IEA), will be held in London, UK, from 23-25 August, 2027, in conjunction with the 23rd Triennial World Congress of the IEA

About HSI2027
HSI emerges from the combination of human-centered design (HCD) and systems engineering (SE) as a highly participative and incremental process. In 2020, INCOSE and IEA signed a Memorandum of Understanding that fosters this combination. Momentum built at HSI2024/IEA2024 to collaborate resulted in the commitment to establish an IEA Technical Committee on HSI.
As conference co-chairs, we are proud to lead the coordination of HSI2027 with the 23rd Triennial World Congress of the IEA. HSI2027 submissions will use the IEA2027 submissions portal so that both conferences can share a cohesive program.
Theme
Navigating Complexity
As the systems we engineer, and the systems within which people work, become more complex, HSI practitioners need more than ever to understand, design, and manage the integration between people, technology, processes, organisations, and operating environments. Together, these form interconnected sociotechnical systems.
Navigating complexity requires balancing these interdependencies to achieve better system performance, safety, user experience, and mission outcomes.
This conference brings together researchers, industry leaders, and innovators to tackle the pressing challenges facing HSI practitioners. Engage with operators, engineering designers, trainers, maintainers, certifiers, and other stakeholders as we explore how sociotechnical systems are shaped in an increasingly complex world.
Be part of the conversation with experts across disciplines to exchange ideas, build connections, and help shape the future of safe, efficient, and sustainable systems. We invite papers on applied practice and learnings, as well as emerging and transformational ideas that progress the field of HSI.
